A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Kentucky Secretary of State on February 5, 2025, by the Bluegrass Times. The request sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
The Bluegrass Times is a media organization dedicated to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, we requested information under the Kentucky Open Records Act § 61.872 et seq.
Specifically, we asked for a list of all candidates that are running in the upcoming election. This list should include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; their jurisdiction; and their party affiliation.
Additionally, we requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential. We also noted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.
We await a response from the Kentucky Secretary of State's office regarding this FOIA request.
