Born on May 31, 1933, in Greenville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Burl Tarleton and Augusta M. Hensley Childress. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Wallace R. Reed, brother Earl (Waldie) Tarleton, and sisters Dovie (Kenneth) Thurman and Hassie (Earl) Dugger.

Retiring as a Manager for Frisch's, a job she took great pleasure in, Doris is survived by her children, Paula Brooks, Sandy Rusch, and Darryl Dugger, along with 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, and friends, particularly her longtime hairdresser and dear friend Susan Easybuck.
