Laura May Smallwood, born on April 8, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, peacefully passed away on November 6, 2024, in Florence, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her compassionate and welcoming nature, Laura touched the lives of many with her unwavering strength and kindness.

A devoted mother, Laura is survived by her son Brian Claypool, daughters Melissa Stratton and Lori (Nick) Carpenter, grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Blanche Lee, Lenora Clark, Janet Rogers, Mary Carlotta, brother Robert Johns, and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Laura found joy in the beach, watching Bengals games, spending time with her dogs Bella and Lily, and camping with loved ones. She cherished observing birds at her feeders from her back deck and found solace in nature. Laura courageously battled and overcame lung cancer, embodying true resilience.

Preceded in death by her parents Ethel and William C. Johns, son Larry Claypool Jr., and former spouse Larry Claypool Sr., Laura's memory will be honored with a visitation on November 14, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, followed by a funeral service.

Laura May Smallwood's life was a testament to love, family, and the strength of the human spirit. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
