The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board has approved $292,722 for projects aimed at agricultural diversification and rural development across the state. The decision was made during the board's monthly meeting.

"The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board continues to be a good steward of the Tobacco Master Settlement money," said Commissioner of Agriculture and Kentucky Agricultural Development Board Chair Jonathan Shell. "The projects approved today will continue to strengthen the economic viability of Kentucky agriculture creating benefits for farm families and the state as a whole."

Among the funded initiatives, Kentucky Halal Meats, LLC received up to $1,350 in state funds for consultation fees under the Food Safety and Efficiency Incentives Program. Metcalfe County 4-H Council, Incorporated was granted up to $2,063 from Metcalfe County funds to purchase 40 hams for its members.

The On-Farm Energy Efficiency Incentives Program aims to improve energy efficiency on farms. Six programs totaling $53,591 were approved in Breckenridge, Carlisle, Graves, Ohio, Rockcastle, and Union counties.

The County Agricultural Incentive Program (CAIP) provides cost-share assistance for various agricultural practices. Two CAIPs totaling $176,718 were approved in Floyd and Jessamine counties.

The Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program helps coordinate environmentally sound disposal of deceased livestock. A total of $12,500 was allocated for this program in Hardin County.

The Youth Agricultural Incentives Program (YAIP) encourages youth participation in agriculture. A YAIP grant of $30,000 was approved for Casey County.

Lastly, the Shared-Use Equipment Program supports community organizations with equipment purchases. Mercer County received approval for a program totaling $16,500.

All application periods and deadlines for CAIP and YAIP will be advertised locally.
