FRANKFORT, Ky. – On October 19, 2023, Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced an $11.7 million rebate that will result in lower utility bills for West Kentuckians.
This rebate will be credited toward the utility bills of West Kentucky ratepayers, lowering their energy costs as they head into winter. The credit comes as part of a 2020 settlement between Attorney General Cameron, Big Rivers Electric Corporation (BREC), and Kentucky Industrial Utility Customers. This is the third consecutive year that the agreement has resulted in electric bill refunds.
“With record-high inflation, every penny counts,” said Attorney General Cameron. “I’m proud to help give hardworking Kentuckians some breathing room, and I’m grateful to BREC for working with us to achieve these savings.”
Since 2020, West Kentucky BREC customers have received refunds totaling $42.8 million. BREC is a Henderson-based electric cooperative corporation that provides wholesale electric power and services to more than more than 121,000 customers in 22 counties.
