FRANKFORT, Ky.– Attorney General Daniel Cameron issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark rulings regarding the use of affirmative action in university admissions.

“Today’s Supreme Court decision reaffirms what the American dream is all about—the promise of freedom and equal treatment for all without regard to race. The Supreme Court was exactly right to hold that “eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it.” Universities are not somehow exempt from this core American value. Today’s decision is a huge step toward a more perfect union.

Today the Supreme Court importantly vindicates the views of a former Kentucky Attorney General who later became a U.S. Supreme Court justice. As Justice John Marshall Harlan famously wrote in language quoted by the Supreme Court today, “our Constitution is color-blind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens.” In this day and age, those words cannot be repeated enough.”
