The Western Kentucky University (WKU) women’s golf team remained in first place at the Conference USA Championship on April 21, despite weather interruptions that delayed play for over three hours. Tournament officials paused the competition due to rain in Frisco, Texas, and one group, including WKU’s Sydney Hackett, was unable to finish all 18 holes before darkness. This group is scheduled to complete their round Wednesday morning before the third round begins.

The Lady Toppers hold an 11-stroke lead over Delaware after two days of play. Freshman Leah Edwards shot an even-par 72 during the second round and is now tied for first place overall with a score of one under par (143). Senior Sydney Hackett stands at two over par through fifteen holes in her second round and holds third place on the leaderboard with an even-par total.

Freshman Reagan Ramage recorded a one-over-par 73 for the day and enters the final round tied for eighth place with a tournament score of four over par (148). Senior Averi Cline finished her second round at five over par (77), moving her to five over for the tournament and tying her for eleventh place. Junior Grace Frei joined WKU’s lineup in the second round, also posting a five-over-par score.

Head coach Adam Gary said, “It was a tough day today with a 3.5 hour rain delay. Conditions were tough but I’m proud of how the team persevered. Sydney still has two holes left to finish in the morning. We are looking forward to the last day tomorrow.” Team scores show WKU leading with rounds of 288 and 283 for an incomplete total of eight over par.

The outcome will be determined after Hackett completes her remaining holes Wednesday morning followed by final-round play.
