WKU track and field will continue its outdoor season at the LSU Alumni Gold meet on April 25 at Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The event brings together collegiate teams including Alcorn State, Dillard, Hinds Community College, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Tech, host LSU, McNeese State, Memphis, North Carolina A&T, Nevada, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana University (SE Louisiana), Southern University and A&M College (Southern), Tulane University (Tulane), the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), ULM and Vanderbilt. WKU has entered a total of 13 competitors for this meet.
Competition begins with the women’s hammer throw at 10 a.m., followed by men’s hammer throw at 11:15 a.m. Men’s discus and women’s shot put are scheduled for later in the day. Live results will be provided by LSU through AthleticLIVE.
WKU enters this meet after competing in several events earlier this outdoor season. At the Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State last weekend, Parker Smith finished second in the men’s 800-meter run. During the Tennessee Invite on April 10-11 hosted by the University of Tennessee, Jayla Gilbert won first place in women’s shot put while Kameron Horton took third place in men’s 100-meter dash and Trevor Hudnall secured third place in men’s 800-meter run. Gilbert achieved a distance of 14.96 meters to win her event; Horton finished his race with a time of 10.38 seconds; Hudnall recorded a personal best time of 1:49.65.
Other notable performances from previous meets include Carolina Bannach placing second in women’s pole vault open with a mark of 3.82 meters; Kinley Kunkel finishing second in the women’s 5000-meter run with a time of 16:20.19; Van Thrasher winning both hurdles and high jump events at Jim Vargo Invitational; Myles Gentry capturing first place in men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.89 seconds; Devon Rogers winning men’s javelin throw with a distance of over sixty-one meters; Hunter Coslow taking first place in hammer throw as well as top finishes from other athletes across sprints and relays.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s competition against strong regional opponents gives WKU athletes another opportunity to build momentum during their outdoor campaign.
