WKU Softball earned its fifth home conference series win after defeating Kennesaw State 13-2 in a five-inning run-rule game on April 25. The Hilltoppers used a ten-run fourth inning to secure the victory.
The outcome highlights WKU’s strong performance this season, improving their overall record to 35-10 and their Conference USA record to 17-6. The team’s offensive surge and solid pitching contributed to the decisive win.
Lauren Satterly led the team with three runs batted in, while Rylan Smith struck out seven batters across four innings. Maddy Wood returned to the circle and recorded her 100th career strikeout during the game. “I thought today our base running was probably our most positive aspect offensively,” said WKU Softball head coach, Amy Tudor. “Obviously people stepped up to hit like Morgan and Lauren who had two RBI, I think. Those are big at-bats from our two lefties who hit back-to-back. Rylan was great in the circle and did a really good job for us. I thought we played sound defense, a few bad hops here and there but overall, it was a great day. We appreciate all of the alumni coming back; it was great to see everyone and all our fans who are normally here as well.”
Six of WKU’s starting nine players went one-for-two at bat during the game, with six starters currently batting over .300 for the season (Kendle White, Jenna Blanton, Annie White, Morgan Sharpe, Lauren Satterly, and Maci Masters). With Saturday’s six hits added in, WKU Softball has reached 400 hits this season; their program record stands at 455 hits.
The Hilltoppers’ offense has now produced 284 runs this year—just six shy of matching their all-time program record of 290 runs scored in a single season.
Looking ahead, WKU Softball will play its final home game of the regular season on Sunday for Senior Day festivities. Senior pitcher Maddy Wood and senior manager Hannah Kirby will be honored before first pitch.
