WKU baseball loses 7-3 to Louisville at Jim Patterson Stadium

WKU Baseball lost to Louisville by a score of 7-3 on April 14 at Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. The Hilltoppers now have a record of 19-18 for the season, while Louisville improves to 21-16.

The game began with the Cardinals scoring in the first inning and extending their lead with a double. Hayden Robbins responded for WKU in the second inning with a solo home run, his third of the year, cutting the deficit to one run. However, Louisville added two runs in the second and three more in the fourth to build a six-run advantage.

Both teams were held scoreless until WKU’s offense produced in the eighth inning. Kyle Hayes hit a double that brought Lane Arroyos home from first base, followed by Logan Luckett’s RBI-double—his first extra-base hit of the season—to score Hayes. Luckett finished 1-for-1 after entering as a substitute in the sixth inning and also recorded his first career double as a Hilltopper.

On defense, Zach Lyles started on the mound for WKU. Several relievers contributed out of the bullpen including Dawson Hall, Gage Olsen, Ka’olu Holt, Dominic Monaco, Nathan Lawson, Trey Reinburg, and Jacob O’Day. Reinburg pitched one scoreless and hitless inning with two strikeouts.

Austin Haller led WKU offensively by going 2-for-5 at bat; it was his thirteenth multi-hit game this season and fifth within seven games. Robbins and Hayes each had one hit along with scoring once and driving in an RBI apiece. Grayson Godbee also recorded his first hit as a Hilltopper during Tuesday’s contest.

With this loss WKU is now 71-77 all-time against Louisville and holds a record of 35-48 when playing them on their home field.

Looking ahead, WKU will travel to Missouri State for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 17 at Hammons Field.
