Mahurin Family Foundation Head Coach Hank Plona announced on April 22 the signing of Moussa Konare, a 6-foot-10 forward, to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season.
Konare arrives at Western Kentucky after playing one season at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. His addition is expected to strengthen the team’s frontcourt depth and bring new energy to the roster.
“Moussa has a chance to be a great player,” Plona said. “He is just scratching the surface of his potential. He’s been very well coached at Trinity Valley and improved day by day and month by month throughout his freshman season. We expect Moussa to step in and make a huge impact next year. He is going to be a player Hilltopper fans love to watch.”
During the 2025-26 season, Konare played in 28 games with 19 starts for Trinity Valley Community College, helping lead the Cardinals to a 30-6 record and securing both a Region XIV Championship and an appearance in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinals. He averaged 5.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game over nearly twenty minutes per contest, reaching double figures in scoring six times and recording three games with double-digit rebounds.
Konare shot over fifty-three percent from the field during his freshman campaign, achieving a season-high thirteen points twice—against Kilgore College on December 3 and Lee College on March 14—and posted an eleven-point, ten-rebound double-double against Lee College on March 7.
Before joining Trinity Valley Community College, Konare developed his skills at Joel Freeland Academy in Gran Canaria, Spain—a program established by former NBA and EuroLeague player Joel Freeland.
