The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute received four 3-star ratings—the highest possible—from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons in several cardiac surgery categories, according to an April 17 announcement. These categories include mitral valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic valve replacement with coronary artery bypass grafting, and overall combined cardiac surgery.

This recognition places the institute among the top one percent of heart programs in the United States and Canada. The achievement is seen as a reflection of high standards in patient care and surgical outcomes for the Greater Cincinnati community and beyond.

Dean Kereiakes, MD, FACC, MSCAI, Chairman of The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute and Medical Director of The Christ Hospital Research Institute said: “Our team of skilled surgeons and providers have qualified for this distinction under the most rigorous and respected independent quality indictors in healthcare. Earning a 3-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons among four specific categories proves once again our team’s commitment to excellence while providing exceptional outcomes for cardiac patients here in Greater Cincinnati. No other program can boast this achievement.”

Geoff Answini, MD, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Christ Hospital added: “We continue to deliver the most advanced heart surgery possible for our patients not just here in Greater Cincinnati, but patients who travel to Cincinnati for excellent cardiac outcomes. This national recognition has made The Christ Hospital a destination for cardiac surgical care and is a direct result of the teamwork, precision and relentless pursuit of excellence that define our program.”

The hospital network features its main campus in Mount Auburn along with various outpatient centers and physician offices across the region according to its official website. It serves the Greater Cincinnati area through these facilities according to its official website.

In addition to clinical care, The Christ Hospital Health Network engages in partnerships that integrate advanced technology and research into diagnostics and treatments according to its official website. It upholds values such as excellence, compassion, integrity, inclusion, and stewardship with an aim to benefit community health through compassionate personalized care according to its official website.

Looking ahead, hospital leaders say their focus will remain on advancing patient outcomes through ongoing innovation.
