Tague Davis set new Atlantic Coast Conference and University of Louisville baseball records during a game against Miami on May 9, leading the Cardinals to a 16-9 win in 11 innings.
The victory ended a six-game losing streak for Louisville and was highlighted by an explosive nine-run rally in the top of the eleventh inning. The game is significant for both the team’s turnaround and Davis’s individual achievements, which broke long-standing conference and school records.
Davis hit two home runs and drove in five runs. His second homer, a two-run shot in the eleventh inning, marked his 32nd home run of the season. This surpassed previous ACC single-season home run record holders J.D. Drew (Florida State, 1997) and Brock Wilken (Wake Forest, 2023), who each had set the mark at 31. With this performance, Davis also broke Louisville’s single-season RBI record with his total reaching 89, moving past Richie Hawks (1991) and Rob Newman (1992).
The game saw multiple lead changes. After falling behind early, Louisville took its first lead when Davis hit his initial three-run homer in the fourth inning. Jimmy Nugent followed with another home run before Griffin Crain added an RBI single to extend their advantage. Miami responded with a three-run homer of its own but could not hold off Louisville’s late surge.
In extra innings, Zion Rose started another rally with a double that brought home two runs before further hits from Crain, Lucas Moore, Alex Alicea—and Davis’s record-breaking homer—secured victory for Louisville. Nine players recorded hits for the Cardinals; Rose, Davis, Nugent and Kade Elam had two each.
Pitcher Aaron England earned the win after allowing one run over three innings of relief work while Ethan Eberle struck out seven across five innings as starter.
Louisville will conclude its weekend series against Miami on Saturday evening.
