The University of Louisville baseball team won 8-5 against California on April 19, with Tague Davis hitting three home runs in the game.
The win brings Louisville’s record to 22-18 overall and 7-11 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The result is notable because Davis became the first Cardinal to hit three home runs in a game since Luke Napleton did so against Virginia Tech in March of 2024. Davis now has a total of 24 home runs this season, which is just one short of Louisville’s single-season record.
Cal took an early lead by scoring four times in the first inning and forcing starting pitcher Colton Hartman out of the game. Brandon Shannon came on in relief and allowed only one run over more than five innings, striking out five batters. Ty Starke finished the final three innings for his first career save.
Davis started Louisville’s comeback with a two-run homer in the third inning after Zion Rose singled. In the fifth, he contributed another hit before Bayram Hot was hit by a pitch and Griffin Crain drove him home with a single. Jimmy Nugent then doubled to tie the score at four each.
In the seventh inning, Davis led off with his second homer of the day, giving Louisville its first lead. Ben Slanker added another run later that inning with an RBI single. After Cal scored once more, Davis completed his hat trick with his third homer in the eighth inning to set up an 8-5 finish.
Louisville will next face Kentucky at Jim Patterson Stadium on Tuesday night.
