Senior Zander Hooten set a new men’s 110-meter hurdle program record for Bellarmine University track and field during the University of Kentucky’s Jim Green Invitational, according to a May 3 announcement.
Hooten broke his own previous record in the event, finishing with a time of 14.18 seconds in the finals, surpassing his prior mark of 14.26 from last week’s Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational. He placed third overall in the event.
Two other Bellarmine athletes qualified for the finals in the men’s 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Taevion Sweeney finished seventh with a time of 14.67 seconds, while junior Carter Olmsted took eighth place at 14.90 seconds.
In distance events, senior Alex Hooten was runner-up in the men’s 800-meter Open with a time of 1:51.07 and also secured seventh place in the men’s 1500 meters at 3:49.71. Other notable performances included freshman Jack Moutardier (ninth, 1:54.84), junior Chase Austin (13th, 1:55.60), and freshman Buzz Christensen (17th, 1:57.20) who all finished within the top half of competitors in their respective races.
On the women’s side, junior Amelia Svidal placed fourth in triple jump with an effort of 11.88 meters and took eighth place in long jump at 5.61 meters.
Other top-half finishes included sophomore Grant King (16th, men’s 200m – 21.50; 16th, men’s 100m – 10.81), senior Zac Hutslar (21st, men’s 200m – 21.68), freshman Caysie Brady (13th, women’s hammer throw Open – 48.31 meters), freshman Dylan Forster (13th, men’s shot put – 16.79 meters) and senior Alex Cole (men’s discus – 47.54 meters).
Bellarmine is scheduled to compete next at the ASUN Outdoor Championships from May 14-16 in Jacksonville.
