Sen. Paul Rand (R-Ky) said the impeachment trial is “partisan politics under a different name” and is “over before it starts.”
The senator told Chris Wallace, Fox News, that Democrats should realize that impeaching former President Donald Trump is “a bad idea,” and there is a “zero” chance that the Senate will convict Trump.
Rand also said that there shouldn’t be double standards criminalizing Republican speeches but ignoring all the Democrats’.
"If we're going to criminalize speech, and somehow impeach everybody who says, 'Go fight to hear your voices heard,' I mean really we ought to impeach Chuck Schumer then," Paul said on Fox News Sunday. "He went to the Supreme Court, stood in front of the Supreme Court, and said specifically, 'Hey Gorsuch, Hey Kavanaugh, you've unleashed a whirlwind. And you're going to pay the price. You won’t know what hits you if you continue with these awful decisions.”
Paul further said that if people want to hold Trump responsible for language, “there has to be a consistent standard and to my mind, it’s a partisan farce because you’re not doing anything to Chuck Schumer.”
The senator also added that the impeachment is a farce, unconstitutional, and most importantly, will divide America.
