U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on the Senate floor that the American people needed to elect better representatives.

Paul called the stimulus bill socialist, saying that any Republican that voted for it should join a different caucus because they are no better than Democrats.

“To so-called conservatives that are quick to identify the socialism of Democrats, if you vote for this spending monstrosity, you’re no better,” Paul said on the Senate floor.

Paul spoke in a Fox News interview about his thoughts on the bill, saying that his biggest issue with the bills is nothing is ever taken away, but things are always added into them.

“The thing is, they never take away wasteful spending, they just add to it,” Paul said. “And the bottom line is the only way we’re ever going to recover this economy is we’ve got to open the economy up.”

Paul said the bill was a problem.

“But, that bill yesterday was a bunch of socialist spending and if you voted for it, you’re no better than the Democrats so that’s the problem we have,” Paul said. “People need to get involved in the primaries and elect better people. People in Washington are bankrupting us — both parties.”

Paul said he didn’t know how the wasteful spending would stop without new people being voted into government.

“I saw the president’s speech … he was on a rant and so am I,“ Paul said.

Paul said the problem with giving Americans more money is that it is adding it on top.

“These jokers never replace spending, I’ve asked for it all along,” Paul said.

Paul said they never agree to exchange the wasteful spending for purposeful spending.

“The thing is, you need better people,” Paul said. “There are only six or seven of us that oppose this smorgasbord of debt.”
