University of Louisville issued the following announcement on Sept. 16

University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi will be on hand Sept. 19 to help officially debut new UofL classrooms and office space at Fort Knox.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Army Education Center, Layaou Hall, Building 65, on the grounds of the military base. Also attending will be Maj. Gen. John Evans Jr., commanding general of U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox; Emmet Holley, Fort Knox deputy garrison commander; Rella Braxton, acting chief, Army Continuing Education Services; Amy Lingo, interim dean, College of Education and Human Development (CEHD); and Sharon Kerrick, chair of the Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development in CEHD.

Since its founding in the early 1970s, the Fort Knox Center has awarded more than 600 degrees to soldiers, their family members and civilians. The center also serves as the National Testing Center for Fort Knox, where more than 200 tests are offered from high-stakes certification to college-level equivalency exams.

The new office location brings UofL into the forefront of schools represented in the Army Education Center. Extensive renovations, modern furniture and up-to-date technology applications give Fort Knox UofL students space equal to the state-of-the-art Belknap Academic Building enjoyed by students in Louisville.

The center promotes all UofL programs (on campus and online) but focuses on three: the bachelor of science in organizational leadership and learning; the master of science in human resource and organization development; and the master of arts in higher education administration.

Media wishing to attend should make arrangements by contacting Fort Knox Public Affairs at 502-624-3051 and arrive at the Chaffee (Main) Gate Visitor Center parking lot no later than 1 p.m. Sept. 19.
