U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has introduced the End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act, a bill that aims to end federal taxpayer-funded benefits such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and other federal subsidies or services for refugees, asylees, or immigrants without legal status in the United States.
“With a national debt exceeding $38 trillion, Washington should not be running a welfare system on autopilot,” said Dr. Paul. “The End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act puts America First by stopping taxpayer dollars from being siphoned into benefits for non-citizens. If we want a sustainable safety net and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, this bill is a must-pass.”
Paul referenced a recent fraud case in Minnesota involving federal prosecutors who estimate losses could reach $9 billion as an example of failures in oversight of the welfare system.
Senator Paul was elected to represent Kentucky in the U.S. Senate in 2010 and has focused on limiting government to its constitutional role and promoting fiscal responsibility during his tenure, according to his official website. Before entering politics, he worked as an ophthalmologist for 17 years and founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic in 1995 to provide medical care to families in need. He has also performed pro-bono eye surgeries both domestically and internationally.
Paul’s legislative efforts include authoring books such as ‘Deception: The Great Covid Coverup’ and ‘The Case Against Socialism.’ He has chaired the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
