A man from Raccoon, Kentucky, Lonnie James Maynard, 54, has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for producing child pornography. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning.

According to court documents, on January 17, 2025, a search of Maynard’s phone revealed that he used Snapchat to direct a minor to send him sexually explicit photos and videos. The investigation found that the minor complied with his requests.

Federal law requires Maynard to serve at least 85 percent of his prison term before becoming eligible for release. After completing his sentence, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for ten years.

The sentencing was announced jointly by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Olivia Olson, Special Agent in Charge at the FBI Louisville Field Office; and Phillip J. Burnett, Jr., Commissioner of the Kentucky State Police.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Kentucky State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Blankenship prosecuted the case.

“This case is part of Project Safe Childhood,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office statement. “Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet as well as to identify and rescue victims.” More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
