Northern Kentucky University Norse softball defeated Detroit Mercy 2-1 on April 25, moving into second place in the Horizon League standings. Freshman pitcher Makaree Chapman delivered a complete-game performance, allowing only one unearned run as the Norse secured their third win of the series.

The result is significant for Northern Kentucky, which now holds an 8-7 record in conference play and stands at 20-23 overall. The win strengthens the team’s position ahead of its final regular season series.

Chapman started for Northern Kentucky and limited Detroit Mercy to three hits and one walk while striking out two batters. She improved her personal record to 6-11 with this victory. The team collected ten hits but managed just two runs during the game.

Mack Brow led offensively for Northern Kentucky, going three-for-four at the plate. Emma Ginn drove in both runs—first with a sacrifice fly and later with an RBI single—and finished two-for-two batting. Brooke Keltner also contributed by going two-for-three with a double and scoring a run.

Northern Kentucky will travel to IU Indy next weekend for its final series of the regular season.
