Northern Kentucky Norse women’s tennis falls to Youngstown State in Horizon League quarterfinal

Northern Kentucky University Norse women’s tennis lost to Youngstown State in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Women’s Tennis Championship on April 24. The match took place at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, where Northern Kentucky was defeated 4-0 by the Penguins.

The result ends Northern Kentucky’s run in the tournament, with Youngstown State advancing to the semifinal. The loss marks an early exit for NKU from this year’s championship.

In doubles play, Northern Kentucky dropped the opening point as Sydney Zakic and Alyssa Cameron lost their match 6-2, while Aaditi Bhat and Catharina Cardoso were defeated 6-1. In singles competition, Sydney Zakic fell in first singles, Alyssa Cameron was beaten in third singles, and Haley Slay lost her fifth singles match. Cassia Adamowsky managed to win a set for NKU but her match went unfinished.

The detailed results show that Hanna Telzynska (YSU) defeated Sydney Zakic (NKU) 6-1, 6-2; Yesenyia Ovcharova (YSU) beat Alyssa Cameron (NKU) 6-1, 6-0; and Line Greyling (YSU) overcame Haley Slay (NKU) 6-3, 6-1. Other matches were left unfinished as Youngstown State clinched victory before they concluded.

With this defeat, Northern Kentucky concludes its participation in this season’s Horizon League Women’s Tennis Championship.
