Northern Kentucky University Norse women’s basketball announced on Apr. 30 the signing of Swedish forward Sara Basaran as its third addition for the 2026 offseason.

The addition of Basaran is expected to strengthen the team with her experience and versatility, following a successful collegiate career in Texas and international play in Sweden.

“Sara brings a versatility and competitive edge from Collin College that will immediately impact our program,” said Norse head coach Jeff Hans. “She found both individual and team success there, consistently producing while playing a key role in her team’s achievements. Sara impacts the game across multiple statistical categories, contributing as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker, which makes her a true all-around presence on the floor.”

Basaran played two seasons at Collin College in Texas, making 62 appearances with 41 starts for the Cougars. In the 2025-26 season, she started all games and led her team in minutes played (30.6 per game), points (13.1 per game), field goal percentage (47.4%), rebounds (8.2 per game), and blocks (1.2 per game). She earned NJCAA Third Team All-American honors along with Region 5 All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Tournament recognitions during her sophomore year.

Basaran also averaged 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting over 31 percent from three-point range on three attempts per contest. She scored double digits in most games during the season—including a career-high of 25 points against Cisco College—and recorded six double-doubles overall.

Before joining Collin College, Basaran competed for club teams Malbas and Norrköping Dolphins in Sweden and represented Malmö as well as playing for Sweden’s U20 national team.

Looking ahead to next season, Northern Kentucky expects Basaran’s all-around skills to contribute significantly both offensively and defensively.
