Northern Kentucky Norse softball shut out by Kentucky at home

Northern Kentucky University Norse softball lost to Kentucky 6-0 at Frank Ignatius Grein Field in Highland Heights on April 15. The game followed a previous loss to Miami, where the Norse fell 11-3.

The result leaves Northern Kentucky with a record of 16-22 overall and 4-7 in the Horizon League, while Kentucky improved to 25-22 overall and holds a conference record of 1-16 in the Southeastern Conference.

Pitcher Alicia Flores started for Northern Kentucky, allowing two runs over four innings with five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Abigail Byrd entered in relief and pitched two scoreless innings before Makaree Chapman finished the game, giving up four runs in the seventh inning. Offensively, Northern Kentucky managed only four hits across twenty-five at-bats and drew two walks. Jena Rhoads was the only player to reach base more than once, going two-for-three at the plate.

The team did not record any extra-base hits during the game. After this loss, Northern Kentucky will have a break over the weekend before resuming their homestand next Tuesday against Evansville.
