The City of Covington announced on Apr. 14 that the NKY Restoration Weekend will return on April 25, 2026, offering a day of educational activities aimed at historic homeowners and preservation enthusiasts across Northern Kentucky. The event is set to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Newport Intermediate School in Newport, Kentucky, with a free lunch and vendor fair beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The NKY Restoration Weekend is designed to support those interested in maintaining and restoring historic properties by providing practical skills training, networking opportunities with preservation experts and contractors, and resources for both do-it-yourself projects and professional work. Organizers say the event also highlights the cultural significance of the region’s historic places.

Kaitlin Bryan, Covington’s Manager of Historic Preservation, said, “Our region’s historic homes and neighborhoods are a vital part of what makes Northern Kentucky special. This event helps homeowners protect that legacy while gaining the tools and resources they need to care for their properties.”

Covington fosters a diverse population that combines an Old World work ethic with creative talent while enhancing community recreation through its parks system according to the official website. The city maintains many parks as well as historic homes and repurposed commercial spaces according to the official website. Covington ranks among Kentucky’s most populous cities and serves as a key location adjacent to Cincinnati across the Ohio River according to the official website.

Covington honors its heritage by preserving historical markers named after war heroes according to the official website, blending municipal government responsibilities with ongoing efforts in historic preservation and community development according to the official website.

The upcoming event is funded partly by Federal funds from the National Park Service through administration by the Kentucky Heritage Council. Registration is encouraged for those planning to attend; more information can be found at nkyrestoration.org.
