Murray State Racers softball team completes sweep over Illinois State Redbirds

The Murray State Racers defeated the Illinois State Redbirds 6-1 on April 26 to complete their first series sweep of the 2026 season. The game took place in Normal, Illinois, with the Racers improving their record to 23-21 overall and 14-9 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

The win moves Murray State into third place in the conference standings, while Illinois State drops to fourth after suffering its sixth consecutive loss. The victory marks four straight wins for the Racers.

Bailey Broemmer started the scoring for Murray State with an RBI double in the second inning. Reagan Towns extended the lead with a two-run double in the fourth, followed by an RBI double from Katy Huels that made it 4-0. The Redbirds responded with a sacrifice fly in their half of the fourth inning, but Ailey Schyck hit her fifth home run of the season for Murray State in the sixth. Towns added another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Towns finished with three runs batted in, going one-for-two at bat. Broemmer and Schyck each went three-for-three at plate appearances; Broemmer doubled twice and Schyck contributed a solo home run. Kenley Minor, Allie Waldron, and Huels also recorded hits during the game.

Pitcher Bre Haislip earned her tenth win of the season after allowing one earned run over four innings pitched and striking out two batters. Raylee Roby pitched three innings of relief without giving up any runs except one hit.

Looking ahead, Murray State will play SEMO on April 28 before starting a weekend series against Drake on May 1-2.
