The Murray State Racers women’s softball team defeated the Drake Bulldogs 9-7 on May 2 to complete a series sweep in Des Moines, Iowa.

With this win, the Racers extended their winning streak to seven games and achieved their highest regular-season win total since 2023. The team finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference standings and will participate in the upcoming 2026 MVC Softball Championship in Carbondale, Illinois.

Drake took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, but Murray State responded with runs from Katy Huels and Adison Hicks to tie the game by the third inning. Ava Ozment gave Murray State its first lead with an RBI single in the fourth. Hicks then hit her seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot that increased their advantage. Additional runs came from Parker Holcombe and a sequence involving Hicks and Kynadee Warner.

Despite a late rally by Drake that narrowed Murray State’s lead to two runs in the seventh inning, reliever Emily Siurek ended the game with a strikeout to secure both her save and her team’s victory. Bre Haislip earned her eleventh win of the season as pitcher for Murray State.

Hicks led at bat for Murray State, going two-for-three with a home run and scoring twice. Other contributors included Huels, Ozment, Warner, Holcombe, Allie Waldron, Bailey Broemmer, and Kenley Minor.

The Racers will begin play at the MVC Softball Championship on Wednesday, May 6. Tournament bracket details are expected after all conference games conclude.
