Murray State men’s golf team mounted a significant comeback on April 28 during the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, finishing as runners-up after a sudden death playoff against Illinois State at Annbriar Golf Club in Waterloo, Illinois.

The Racers achieved the lowest single-round score and recorded the largest comeback to force a playoff in conference history. Despite trailing by 11 strokes, Murray State shot 12-under par as a team in the final round to tie with Illinois State and force only the second team playoff in MVC Men’s Golf Championship history, with the previous one occurring in 1971.

Ultimately, Murray State fell by one shot on the second team playoff hole. The team’s three-round scores were 282, 285, and an impressive final round of 271 for a total of 838. This performance secured them their second consecutive MVC runners-up finish.

Sophomore Trey Wall led Murray State with a fourth-place individual finish for the week. He was followed by junior Lennon Albans in sixth place. Rocco Zakutney and Sam Guest both tied for twelfth place while Brock Montgomery completed the lineup with a sixteenth-place finish. Wall’s season also earned him All-MVC honors for a second straight year.
