Murray State University announced on April 27 that its baseball team will face the Memphis Tigers at Johnny Reagan Field on Tuesday at 1 p.m. for a non-conference midweek game.
The contest is significant as Murray State currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference with a 12-6 record, following a recent road series win over Southern Illinois. The team’s strong performance included senior right-hander Nic Schutte’s second career complete game and a grand slam by Kainen Jorge during Friday’s match. The Racers secured the series victory with a 7-5 win on Sunday and have won five of their last six conference games.
In their only other home midweek contest this season, Murray State lost to Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) with an 8-1 score. The team aims to improve its current 4-7 record in midweek games when it faces Memphis.
Memphis arrives at the game holding a 16-26 overall record and an 8-10 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Tigers are looking to recover from recent struggles, having lost four of their last five games.
Historically, Murray State trails Memphis in the all-time series, with a record of 38 wins and 65 losses, including a home record of 17-32 against the Tigers. However, under head coach Dan Skirka’s leadership, Murray State has won three of the last five meetings between the teams.
First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m., and fans can watch live coverage on ESPN+.
