The Morehead State softball team must win all three games in its upcoming series against Lindenwood to keep its postseason hopes alive, according to an April 30 announcement. The Eagles will play the Lions at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Missouri, with two games scheduled for Friday and one on Saturday.
This weekend’s results are critical as Morehead State trails Western Illinois for the final berth in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, which begins May 6. To qualify, the Eagles need to sweep Lindenwood and hope that Western Illinois does not win any of its remaining games. None of the tournament seeds have been decided yet.
Head coach Megan Griffith said her team is focused on improving from last weekend and knows what it takes to achieve their goals: “We’re looking to improve from last weekend. We will need to control Lindenwood’s run game and be efficient in the circle,” she said. “We have been preparing for their pitchers offensively and we’ll need good execution at the plate.”
The Eagles enter this series after four consecutive losses but have shown offensive productivity throughout the season, recording at least seven hits in 28 games and reaching several statistical milestones. Junior outfielder Maddy Christopher has reached base by any means in all but one game this year, while junior infielder Sela Pickford has done so 37 times.
Lindenwood comes into the matchup with a strong home record and six players batting over .300 this season. The teams have only met since 2023 when Lindenwood joined the conference; Lindenwood leads recent matchups overall.
All three games will be available via live stats online as well as broadcast on ESPN+. The outcome of these contests will determine whether Morehead State secures a place in next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
