The Morehead State Men’s Golf Team finished sixth out of eleven teams at the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament, which took place from April 26 to April 28 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The tournament was held on the par-71, 6,900-yard Ackerman-Allen Course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex at Purdue University. Little Rock won the event by a margin of 45 strokes over second-place UT Martin. Morehead State completed the three rounds with scores of 298, 287, and 305 for a total of 890 (+38). The team’s best performance came in round two with a score of three over par. During that round, junior Remy Stalcup and sophomore Gavin Augenstein both shot even par.
Stalcup led the Eagles individually by tying for thirteenth place with a total score of 220 across three rounds. Senior Logan McCormick finished tied for nineteenth with a score of 222. Sophomore Seamus Bogan tied for twenty-seventh after shooting a combined score of 224. Augenstein and senior Logan Liles also contributed to the team’s effort.
Head Coach Matthew Martin said, “I am proud of the fight everyone showed until the end. Five shots over three days to make the final four of match play is very easy to find. It’s disappointing to come up short, but we will work hard to put ourselves in a better position next year. The guys here at the championship and those at home are awesome to be around and represent Morehead State well.” Martin also noted that this season included two tournament victories and six top-five finishes for his team.
Reflecting on graduating seniors Colten, Logan McCormick, and Logan Liles, Martin added: “We will greatly miss Colten, Logan and Logan. Their impact was meaningful, lasting and extends beyond the course. I look forward to following their future success in everything coming for them.”
