The Morehead State Eagles softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks on April 27. In the first game, the Eagles were defeated 9-2, and in the second game, they fell 8-3.
These results mark another setback for Morehead State as they continue their season. The outcomes highlight challenges faced by the team in both pitching and offense during this matchup.
In Game 1, Noemye Letendre and Sophie Collins each collected three hits for Morehead State. Ainsley Stubbs started as pitcher and took the loss. Collins also contributed an RBI, while Taikibrea Campbell added a double and an RBI. The Eagles scored first in the second inning but were overtaken after Southeast Missouri State tied it up in the fifth before scoring seven runs over the last two innings.
Game notes from this contest indicate that Collins led at the plate with a perfect three-for-three performance. Madison Winkler led Southeast Missouri offensively with two hits including a home run and three RBIs, while Willow Van Haren pitched four innings allowing only one run.
In Game 2, Letendre went one-for-two with a home run and two RBIs. Rylie Burney started as pitcher for Morehead State but took her eighth loss of the season; Allicen Harris provided relief by throwing 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Sela Pickford also homered for Morehead State.
The Redhawks built an early lead before Morehead closed some of that gap in later innings but could not recover fully. Brittany Affolter powered Southeast Missouri’s offense with a home run and three RBIs; Elliott Stinson pitched six innings allowing three runs for SEMO.
