Freshman Kalynn Pease broke another school record and senior Kaylyn Holman moved up the all-time list as they led the Morehead State track and field team during the first two days of the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky., according to an April 25 update from the university.
The event highlights significant achievements for both athletes and their teammates. Pease won the Flight A long jump title with a leap of 21 feet, 5.25 inches, tying her for seventh nationally. Holman finished 12th collegiately in the 800-meter run with a personal best of 2:16.12, placing her sixth on Morehead State’s all-time performers list.
Pease consistently surpassed 20 feet on her jumps, despite fouling twice and passing on her final attempt. Her winning mark was achieved with wind assistance above allowable limits for official records but still matched Louisville’s Eve Divinity for best overall at the meet. Other notable performances included junior Derril Carr setting a personal record in the men’s 200-meter dash at 22.66 seconds and sophomore Weston Blair running his third sub-1:55 time this year in the men’s 800 meters.
Additional results saw freshman Peyton Lunsford achieve a major improvement in her time during the women’s 800 meters, while several other Eagles posted personal records or season-best performances across multiple events including sprints, distance races, and field competitions.
Looking ahead, Morehead State will continue competition through Saturday with entries in relay events and individual races such as steeplechase and triple jump. The team is also preparing for upcoming meets including next weekend’s Jim Green Invitational at Kentucky and then Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships scheduled from May 14-16 in Little Rock.
