A Mercer County man, Larry Coffman, 42, from Harrodsburg, Kentucky, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for sex trafficking of children and committing a felony involving a minor while being required to register as a sex offender. U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell handed down the sentence on Thursday.

Coffman was convicted in April 2025. According to trial testimony, in February 2023 he solicited and enticed two minors to engage in sexual acts in exchange for something of value. At the time, Coffman was already registered as a sex offender due to a previous conviction.

Under federal law, Coffman will serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for release. After completing his prison term, he will remain under lifetime supervision by the U.S. Probation Office.

“Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Rana Saoud, Special Agent in Charge, Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); Chief Scott Elder, Harrodsburg Police Department; and Sheriff Mike Coyle, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, jointly announced the sentencing.”

The investigation involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Harrodsburg Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Roth prosecuted the case on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 that coordinates federal and local efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse across the United States.
