Northern Kentucky University Norse softball player Makaree Chapman was named the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week on April 27, marking her second time receiving this honor during the current season.
This recognition highlights Chapman’s contributions to her team, especially as a freshman. Her performance is notable for both her consistency and impact on recent games.
Head coach Morgan Gerak said, “Makaree was prepared for whatever the team needed this past weekend. We take pride in being a pitching staff, and Makaree filled multiple roles to help secure the series sweep. She was poised and prepared for the opportunity. She was tough in big moments for our team and we are so proud!”
Chapman played a key role as Northern Kentucky swept Detroit Mercy and finished with a 4-1 record over the week. She pitched 13.2 innings across four appearances, recorded one win and one save, and allowed only one unearned run while finishing with a 0.00 earned run average. Chapman struck out eight batters overall, including four strikeouts in two innings during her second appearance against Detroit Mercy. In addition to earning a save in game one of that series by throwing two scoreless innings, she completed a full game without allowing an earned run.
The Norse will finish their regular season this weekend with three games against IU Indy in Indianapolis.
