A Madisonville man has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking. Michael Skinner, 65, was sentenced on July 22, 2025, after admitting to possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division, and Chief Steve Bryan of the Madisonville Police Department.
Skinner’s arrest occurred on August 3, 2024, when law enforcement stopped him due to excessive window tinting. A K-9 unit detected narcotics in his vehicle, leading to the discovery of 80.77 grams of methamphetamine hidden under the hood. Skinner confessed to distributing methamphetamine and having a history of drug distribution offenses. Consequently, he received a sentence of ten years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the DEA Paducah Post of Duty and the Madisonville Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus from the U.S. Attorney’s Paducah Branch Office.
This conviction is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations through efforts coordinated by the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
