Louisville rowing ties for eighth after first day at Lake Wheeler Invitational

The University of Louisville women’s rowing team completed the first day of competition at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on April 24, tying for eighth place out of 20 programs after two rounds.

The invitational features three rounds with team scoring based on top-three finishes in each event. Points are assigned according to placement in Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four races. Louisville accumulated a total of 17 points across the first two rounds.

Louisville’s standout performance came from its Varsity Four crew, which finished second in its opening heat with a time of 7:24.550. The crew—coxswain Zoe Desserich, Angels Ventura Rodriguez, Wilkey Smith, Addie Clark and Keira Krebs—finished behind No. 13 Duke but ahead of No. 25 Oklahoma.

In other events during the morning session, Louisville’s Varsity Eight posted a third-place finish (6:38.340), as did both its Second (6:46.190) and Third Varsity Eights (6:54.780). The Second Varsity Four finished fourth in its heat.

During afternoon racing, all Louisville boats placed fourth in their respective heats; however, the Varsity Eight improved its time slightly to finish at 6:37.900.

Racing continues Saturday morning with final-round events scheduled throughout the morning.
