Louisville men’s golf team starts ACC Championship in seventh place

The University of Louisville men’s golf team began the first round of the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in seventh place after play on April 23 at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida.

This result puts the Cardinals at a score of two-over-par 290, trailing Stanford by fifteen shots. Stanford leads the tournament at thirteen-under-par, followed by Wake Forest at three-under-par and North Carolina at two-under-par. Georgia Tech is fourth with one-under-par and Southern Methodist University rounds out the top five with an even par score.

Throughout Thursday’s round, Louisville experienced mixed results, recording sixteen bogeys and eleven birdies. Easton Johnson contributed an eagle on hole sixteen to help the team’s effort.

Johnson, along with Brady Smith and Warren Thomis, finished tied for twenty-first after shooting even-par seventy-two. Johnson made a birdie on hole thirteen in addition to his eagle. Smith and Thomis together tallied five birdies during their rounds.

Cooper Claycomb is tied for thirty-fifth place at two-over-par while Andrew Tan stands tied for seventy-second place with eight-over-par after the opening round.

The Cardinals are scheduled to continue competition Friday morning starting from hole number one at 8:22 a.m.
