The University of Louisville baseball team secured a 13-10 win over Clemson on April 25 at Jim Patterson Stadium, overcoming two rain delays during the Friday night matchup.
This victory marks Louisville’s third consecutive win and its first opening win in an Atlantic Coast Conference series this season. The game was notable for several key moments, including Tague Davis hitting his 25th home run of the season, tying the program’s single-season record set by Randy Delph in 1974 and Chris Dominguez in 2009.
Clemson took an early lead with a solo home run in the first inning. Louisville responded immediately as Zion Rose drew a walk and Davis followed with his record-tying homer. The teams traded runs until fielding errors by Clemson allowed Louisville to pull ahead in the fourth inning. Additional hits from Rose and Davis extended their lead to three runs.
The Cardinals widened their advantage with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by Ben Slanker’s eighth home run of the year. Despite another solo homer from Clemson and lengthy weather delays, Louisville maintained its momentum. After play resumed following a second rain delay that lasted more than an hour, Clemson narrowed the gap but could not overtake Louisville.
Every starting player for Louisville recorded at least one hit during the game, with five players achieving multiple hits. Davis and Slanker each drove in three runs. Wyatt Danilowicz earned his fourth win of the season after pitching five innings and striking out five batters.
Looking ahead, Louisville will continue its weekend series against Clemson on Saturday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
