The University of Louisville baseball team lost 7-5 to Wake Forest in the series finale on May 2 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The defeat marked the first time this season that Louisville has been swept and extended its losing streak to four games.
This outcome is significant as it affects the Cardinals’ standing in the Atlantic Coast Conference and highlights recent challenges for the team. Louisville now holds a record of 26-22 overall and 10-14 in conference play.
Louisville started strong with Tague Davis hitting a solo home run, his 30th of the season, making him only the third player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to reach that milestone. After a walk to Bayram Hot, Jimmy Nugent hit his ninth home run of the year, giving Louisville an early lead. However, Wake Forest responded with multiple runs across several innings and maintained control through most of the game.
The Cardinals had opportunities late in the game but left runners stranded in both the eighth and ninth innings. Ben Slanker contributed an RBI double during a final rally attempt. Zion Rose and Lucas Moore each recorded two hits for Louisville.
Casen Murphy took the loss after allowing four runs over two innings pitched. Relief pitchers Ty Starke, Aaron England, and Peter Michael each delivered scoreless outings from the bullpen.
Looking ahead, Louisville will travel to Nashville on Tuesday for its annual Battle of the Barrel matchup against Vanderbilt with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
