The University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky volleyball teams will face each other in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20, according to a May 1 announcement from both schools. The match will take place at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington at 3 p.m. Eastern Time and is set to be televised on a network within the ESPN Family, with specific channel details to be announced later.

The Battle of the Bluegrass has become one of college volleyball’s most competitive rivalries in recent years, featuring two programs that regularly compete for spots in the Final Four. Last season, Louisville finished its campaign with a five-set loss against eventual national champion Texas A&M during matches held in Omaha.

Louisville had maintained a winning streak over Kentucky dating back to 2019 until last fall when Kentucky upset then-No. 3 Louisville in a five-set match at KFC Yum! Center—a result that helped propel Kentucky toward an NCAA Final Four appearance. More recently, Louisville defeated Kentucky three sets to one during a spring match held last month in Lexington.

As anticipation builds for this year’s matchup, fans can expect another intense contest between these long-standing rivals.
