Kyrell Shaw has committed to join the Morehead State Men’s Basketball team, the program announced on Apr. 24. Shaw, a guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, played last season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas where he averaged more than 20 points per game.
Shaw’s decision is significant for Morehead State as they add a player who demonstrated strong scoring and athletic ability during his time at both the junior college and Division I levels.
Head Coach Jonathan Mattox said, “Kyrell possesses a lot of attributes we look for in a player. He has great positional size, tremendous length, and has the ability to really score the basketball. He understands how to create shot opportunities at the rim, from the mid-range, and from beyond the arc. He will certainly be a great asset for our program.”
At Hutchinson last year, Shaw led his team by averaging 21.8 points per game while shooting 48 percent overall and 62 percent inside the three-point arc. He also contributed an average of 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists over 19 games, with five games scoring more than thirty points and seven games with over twenty-five points.
Before joining Hutchinson Community College for the 2025-26 season, Shaw began his collegiate career at Maryland-Eastern Shore in 2024-25 where he averaged 6.7 points along with contributions in rebounds and assists across thirty appearances.
Shaw’s high school career included leading Northside Christian Academy to a state title during his senior year while averaging just over twenty points per game.
