The University of Louisville track and field teams set multiple records on April 17 during a busy weekend split between the Bryan Clay Invitational, Virginia Challenge, and Beach Invitational.
The highlight came as Elsingi Kipruto broke the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) record in the men’s 10000 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Kipruto finished with a time of 27:29.83, which is now the fastest time in the NCAA this season and places him eleventh on the all-time collegiate list. His performance surpassed Florida State’s Adriaan Wildschutt’s previous conference record from 2022 by nearly nine seconds and improved upon Louisville’s program record by forty-two seconds.
Other notable performances included Ryan Farrell setting a new school record in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:46.24, beating his own previous mark set earlier this month. Ethan Brouw also ran under that prior school record with a finish of 1:46.88 in his first outdoor meet for Louisville. On the women’s side, Lucinda Rourke established a new program best in her outdoor season debut for the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:06.25.
At other venues, Cullen McReynolds earned third place in men’s long jump at the Virginia Challenge with his personal-best mark of 7.36 meters, while Eve Divinity moved up to third all-time for Louisville women’s long jump after reaching a distance of 6.36 meters—also her personal best.
The Cardinals will continue competition across these meets into Saturday as athletes prepare to compete in additional events including triple jump and various sprints.
