The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will participate in the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at The Pelican Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, from April 17 to 21.
The championship is significant as it brings together all 16 teams in the conference, including new members Oklahoma and Texas. The event will test each team’s skill with a combination of stroke play and match play formats.
Kentucky’s lineup includes junior Cathryn Brown and sophomores C.A. Carter, Anastasia Hekkonen, Karlie Campbell, and Raleygh Simpson. For Brown, this marks her third appearance at the SEC Championship; Hekkonen and Campbell are making their second appearances while Simpson and Carter are competing for the first time at this level. Last season, Campbell led Kentucky with a share of 23rd place after shooting a two-over-par score over three rounds.
The competition will begin Friday with Kentucky teeing off alongside Oklahoma and South Carolina at 9:40 a.m. Eastern Time from hole No. 1. The tournament format features three days of stroke play followed by match-play quarterfinals on Monday morning for the top eight teams. Semifinals will take place Monday afternoon, leading up to the championship match on Tuesday morning which will be broadcast live on SEC Network.
This year marks the eighth consecutive season that both stroke play and match play have been used to determine the conference champion at this event held at The Pelican Golf Club—a par-70 course measuring 6,254 yards that also hosts an annual professional tournament.
The Wildcats enter postseason competition with an average team score of 291.1 across ten events this season and have recorded six top-three finishes along with eleven team rounds of par or better.
