The Kentucky Wildcats women’s soccer program announced on May 9 that Brenton Saylor has joined the staff as associate head coach. Head coach Troy Fabiano said Saylor brings nearly two decades of coaching experience to the team.
Saylor’s appointment is notable for his extensive background at various levels of soccer, including club, collegiate, and professional teams. He most recently served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Stars in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), where he spent two seasons after four years with the Houston Dash.
During his time with the Stars, Saylor coached Alyssa Naeher to honors such as 2024 FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year and U.S. Soccer Player of the Year. Ten players under his guidance received national team call-ups, and Chicago qualified for the NWSL playoffs in 2024. In Houston, he contributed to a Challenge Cup win in 2020 and helped several players reach Olympic rosters.
Saylor also worked with U.S. Youth National Teams at both U-15 and U-17 levels, helping secure a CONCACAF championship in 2022 while focusing on goalkeepers. Between professional roles, he directed and coached at HTX Soccer Club Girls Academy, overseeing multiple teams and supporting youth national team selections.
Returning to college soccer for the first time since 2018, Saylor previously held assistant coaching positions at Rice University—where he led goalkeepers to conference honors—and Mercer University. His early career included roles at UT Martin and Eastern Kentucky University.
Fabiano said Saturday that adding a coach with this level of experience will benefit Kentucky’s program moving forward.
