The Kentucky Volleyball team will play against the North Carolina Tar Heels as part of the 2026 SEC/ACC Challenge, according to an announcement on Apr. 23. The match is scheduled to take place at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington and will be televised by the ESPN Family of Networks.
This matchup is significant as it continues a competitive history between Kentucky and North Carolina. Kentucky holds an all-time record of 11-5 against the Tar Heels, with their last meeting in 2014 resulting in a five-set victory for North Carolina. The two teams have only met twice since 2000, splitting those encounters.
The SEC/ACC Challenge is entering its second year as a co-sanctioned event. All matches from this challenge will be broadcast on ESPN networks. This season, Texas A&M and Tennessee will represent the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in neutral-site matches at State Farm Fieldhouse in Kissimmee, Florida—a role filled by Kentucky and Texas during last year’s event in Fort Worth.
In addition to participating in the SEC/ACC Challenge, Kentucky will also compete in another conference challenge this season: the inaugural SEC/Big Ten Challenge. The Wildcats are set to host UCLA and face Penn State at Wrigley Field as part of that series.
Other notable non-conference games on Kentucky’s confirmed schedule include matches against Wisconsin and Pittsburgh at AVCA First Serve in Milwaukee, SMU and either Purdue or Houston at Paradise Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas, and participation throughout the Southeastern Conference Tournament rounds held later that fall.
