The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has issued a warning to residents about fraudulent text messages that impersonate tolling agencies. These messages contain a suspicious link resembling the KYTC licensing website address.

“If you receive one of these texts, do not click the link,” advises the KYTC. The agency emphasizes that it does not send text messages to collect tolls and is working to have the fraudulent websites removed.

The scam messages claim there are unpaid tolls and suggest that fees will be incurred if payment is not made immediately.

For those who may have provided personal information, KYTC recommends contacting your bank right away. Additionally, reports can be filed with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov or the Federal Trade Commission at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov. The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General’s website, www.ag.ky.gov, also offers guidance on potential identity theft.

Suspicious messages can be forwarded to 7726 (SPAM) to notify your mobile provider.
