Kentucky State Police said that troopers from Post 5 responded to a fatal single-vehicle collision on West Jay Louden Road in Carroll County.

According to the agency, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by Luis Antonio Orduno of Mexico left the roadway, slid sideways and struck a nearby building. The passenger, Luis F. Mayoral Moguel of Glencoe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Orduno was treated for injuries before being lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center with charges including vehicular homicide, DUI first degree, no operator’s license, no insurance, and criminal mischief first degree.

The case is being reconstructed by Trooper J. Votaw with pending autopsy and toxicology results.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about traffic safety and impaired driving in the region. According to state police data, Carroll County recorded 372 traffic collisions in 2024, including two fatal crashes. Kentucky State Police Post 5 patrols Carroll County along with Gallatin, Henry, Oldham, Owen and Trimble counties. The agency has said impaired driving incidents continue to require focused enforcement.

According to NHTSA data, 11,904 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes nationwide in 2024. These incidents accounted for about 30% of all traffic fatalities across the United States.

The Kentucky State Police is the commonwealth’s primary statewide law enforcement agency, with 16 posts, including Post 5 in Campbellsburg, according to their official website.
