Kentucky men’s golf team held a nine-shot lead when darkness suspended play during the second round of the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational on April 13 at the University Club of Kentucky’s Big Blue Course.
The Wildcats finished day one at three-under par as a group, ahead of Marquette, with four out of five starters inside the top ten individually in a field of 92 players. The event was affected by blustery conditions and a 40-minute weather delay, which prevented completion of the scheduled 36 holes for the 17-team field. Round two will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., followed directly by the final round.
Cameron Phillips tied for the individual lead at two-under par after making a hole-in-one on No. 17 just before play was halted. Phillips used a four-iron to ace the par-three hole from 230 yards and shares first place with Tennessee Tech’s Haden Maxwell. Fellow freshman Cole Stockard is tied for third at one-under overall and four-under through fifteen holes in his second round.
Jacob Settles sits in fifth place after carding an eagle on No. 7 during his second round, while senior captain Jack Schoenberger is tied for ninth following an opening-round score of one-under-par seventy. Jacob Lang rebounded from a difficult start to be just one-over in his unfinished second round, tying him for twenty-sixth along with Luke Coyle, who is competing as an individual this week. Charles Cauthen, also playing individually, is tied for forty-ninth.
The Wildcats led all teams in both eagles (two) and birdies (twenty-eight) after day one; Stockard, Phillips and Schoenberger each recorded six birdies to lead their team. Kentucky aims to secure its second spring victory on Tuesday following its win at Colleton River Collegiate in March.
The competition resumes Tuesday morning as teams look to complete unfinished rounds and determine final standings.
