Morehead State University announced on April 15 that freshman Kalynn Pease has received her seventh Ohio Valley Conference in-season honor, setting a new record for the school’s track and field program. Pease was named the league’s outdoor Female Freshman of the Week after her recent performance.
This recognition highlights Pease’s continued achievements during her first year with the Eagles. She has now earned more OVC in-season honors than any other track and field athlete in Morehead State history.
Pease, who is from Flemingsburg, Kentucky, set her fourth school record this spring at the Lee University Fast Break Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee. She won the 200-meter event with a time of 24.07 seconds, improving her personal best by more than a second. In addition to this accomplishment, she also holds school records in the 100-meter dash and long jump and was part of a record-setting 4×100 meter relay team.
Earlier this season, Pease became “the first known individual in OVC history to win three Athlete of the Week awards in any sport in the same week.” She achieved these honors as Female co-Track Athlete of the Week, Female Field Athlete of the Week, and Female Freshman of the Week. After competing at Raleigh Relays earlier this year, she received both Field Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week accolades. Following opening week of indoor season competition, she was again named Freshman of the Week.
Pease’s long jump mark earlier this year measured at 6.22 meters—currently ranked as one of top performances nationally at number forty overall—and is among top twenty-five marks within NCAA East region standings. The top forty-eight marks from each region qualify athletes for NCAA Regional championship events scheduled for late May.
The next event for Morehead State’s track and field team will be participation at Lenny Lyles Invitational held April 24-25 in Louisville.
